Mayor, Councillor Andrew Hope said every year LPSC hosts an Australia Day Awards ceremony recognising members of our community who make an outstanding contribution to making our Shire a better place to live, work or play. He said these awards are designed to publicly acknowledge and reward the remarkable contributions many individual citizens, groups and organisations make at a local level while inspiring and encouraging others to follow their example.
“Because these awards are grassroots, it is other community members who know who deserves to be recognised and can ensure they are. The drought has seen a staggering amount of volunteer effort supporting our community, our emergency services volunteers give many hours of their time, people supporting both junior and senior sport, aged care, youth support, and across so many other areas are out there enriching the fabric of our lifestyle.
These people are often quiet achievers, neither asking nor seeking recognition, but their efforts and achievements strengthen our community and the Shire Australia Day awards provide a way of acknowledging their contribution,” he said.
“Nominees must be Australian citizens and residing in the Liverpool Plains Shire area at the time of nomination.
“On Saturday 26 January 2020, Australian's all around the country will celebrate what's great about Australia. Council hopes you will be involved in the LPS events on that day at Quirindi Royal Theatre, Warrah Creek and Werris Creek. Full details will be advised closer to the day.
“To make the official awards ceremony bigger and better, please nominate that person you know who deserves recognition. Help us celebrate what's great about our community and pay tribute to someone who makes you proud to be from the Liverpool Plains Shire,” Councillor Hope concluded.
